Linux – Add a Launcher (under GNOME)

A 'Launcher' is a symbol on the graphical-user-interface (GUI). If the symbol is clicked, a program or script starts. The program or script and its parameters are defined by the properties of the Launcher. These properties are defined, when the Launcher is added.

Add a Launcher to the Task-Bar

1.) Place the mouse on on a free part of the task-bar (NOT ON AN ICON) with the Launcher-Icons and click the right mouse-button.
2.) In the popped-up menu go to the selection 'Launcher' and click the with the left mouse-button. A window to enter the parameters appears. The meaning of the fields in the windows is described under
Enter Parameters .





Add a Launcher to the surface

1.) Place the mouse on on a free part of the surface and click the right mouse-button.

In the popped-up menu go to the selection 'Launcher' and click the with the left mouse-button. A window to enter the parameters appears. The meaning of the fields in the windows is described under Enter Parameters .





Enter Parameters

After selecting 'launcher' in the previous steps, a window with fields for the parameters pops up.
The values to be entered are dependent from the program to be started. Values to be entered are described at the installation-instructions of the adjacent program.





1.) Name; a symbolic name for the Launcher.
2.) Comment; is shown when the mouse-pointer is placed over the icon.
3.) Dommand; directory and file-name of the program or script, that is executed when the Launcher-icon is clicked.
4.) Type; Application is used for a program or script.
5.) Icon; by clicking a graphic-file can be chosen.

Test:

By clicking onto the icon, the program or script specified in the parameters is started.
