The computer-network comprises personal-computers with the following tasks:
Powerful Server with Linux** and the following services and business-applications:
- Java-runtime und Java-application-server (JBoss) as base for the supply-chain-management-application.
- Database for the supply-chain-management-application.
- Supply-chain-management-application, running under the Java-application-server.
- User-generated files which have to be backed-up periodically .
- Script for the daily backup-job.
- Network-file-server, necessary to share common files from workstations with Linux** as a operating-system.
- Samba-server, necessary to share common files from workstations with Windows** as a operating-system .
Router with Linux** to connect to an internet-service-provider via DSL or modem:
- Script to connect to an internet-service-provider via DSL (digital subscriber line) or modem.
- Firewall.
- Hylafax as fax-server.
Workstation-PC with Windows** 95, Windows** 98 or RedHat**-Linux** (version 7.1 or 9) and the following application-programs:
- Client-application for the supply-chain-management.
- Open-Office as word-processor, calculation and spreadsheet and for charting and graphics.
- BMD-accounting-application (on selected workstations).
- ELBA-electronic-banking (on selected workstations).
- Product- and spare-parts-catalogs from suppliers (on selected workstations).

4.) User, user-groups,directory-structure and access-rights-scheme
To use the Server as file-
and applications-server it is necessary to define users and
directories and to apply an access-rights-scheme to them.
The
directories at the server are accessed from a workstation by
'mounting' them either during startup or dynamically.
A general description of the schemes for a standard-installation is given in the document Linux - file-structure and users.

5.) Service-applications - installations-instructions
Service-applications support bussiness-applications but are not visible to a standard user.
The installation-instructions of the service-applications are described in individual documents for the each type of computer:
6.) Business-applications - installation-instructions
Business-applications are programs, which are directly used by a business-user to support her/him at his work according to a defines business-process .
